What is the K.I.D.S. Program?
Santa’s Village serves as a recipient agency with Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.). K.I.D.S. is a national organization that works with manufacturers and retailers to help children in crisis by providing them with new clothing, toys, shoes, glasses, books, etc. all free of charge. Santa's Village is a distribution partner with K.I.D.S. because of its unique approach in working with Fire Departments to identify and help children in crisis. For every $1 sent to K.I.D.S., $10 worth of clothing, toys, etc. is received for distribution to children in crisis situations in Iowa and Nebraska.
The relationship with K.I.D.S., Inc., a national 501(c)(3) organization in New York, streamlines the process for receiving donated children's materials in this area. Rather than having individual charities and organizations working to solicit major donations from the manufacturers and retailers of products, Santa's Children is able to facilitate these donations simply and quickly through K.I.D.S., Inc. The minimal fee paid to K.I.D.S., Inc. for membership covers the administrative, overhead and shipping costs. Less than two cents of every dollar in donated goods is spent on administrative and shipping costs, making it one of the most cost effective ways to receive donated goods from the manufacturer to the organization facilitating the donations.
What are the activities at Santa's Village?
At Santa’s Village there are a variety of activities going on throughout the year. Currently activities are organized by arrangement only. When fully operational, many activities will be available daily for families and small groups. Larger groups will require coordination to ensure adequate staff are available.
